The House of the Tragic Poet is situated along Via delle Termein Pompei. This small house is one of the best known here because of its wonderful frescoes of heroic and mythological subjects. It is considered to have been a middle-class dwelling and was named after a mosaic found there but which can now be seen in the Naples Museum. The ground floor has a mosaic of a chained dog with the words ‘Cave Canem’ which translated means, ‘Beware of the Dog’.
