Giuseppe Pitrè founded the ethnographic museum in 1909 and it is housed in the annex of the original Palazzina Cinese. In the course of his life the famous ethnologist had collected a rich amount of materials documenting Sicilian folk traditions. Therefore the museum covers the life and art of the Sicilians through objects that recall their traditions and customs like hunting, cooking, fishing and weaving tools as well as male and female costumes over the centuries. There are also sections dedicated to figurative art, Sicilian pottery, painted glass and the puppet theatre.
