The Frontone was Perugia’s first public gardens. It has 4 main pathways that meet to form a semi-circle at one end of the garden. Here there are six statues depicting the Arts, and an amphitheatre. The gardens were designed by poets of the Colonia Arcadica Augusta, who laid out the 18th Century plan still visible today, creating an amphitheatre with earth ‘steps’ bordered by elm trees and with paths lined with exotic plants. Today the earth tiers have been replaced by travertine seats.
