The Fountain of Neptune is said to be the most beautiful fountain in the city of Naples. It was erected for the Viceroy Enrico Guzman conte di Olivares. For thirty years it decorated the area in front of the Arsenal until the early 17th Century when the Duke of Alba had it moved to the Piazza del Palazzo Reale. Later in 1637 it was relocated again, to another part of Castel dell’Ovo. It remained here until 1900 when this much-moved fountain was given a temporary home in Piazza delle Corregge, before finally coming to rest in Piazza G. Bovio.
