According to the historical novel by Ercoliani, the fortress in Manerba del Garda was governed by Leutelmonte. The fort was all but destroyed in 1279 after it was taken from Verona by Brescia for having offered refuge to the Ghibellines. Its final destruction came about in 1575, after a decree by Giacomo Soranzo, the superintendent of Veneto, after the Zamari, a band of raiders, had taken shelter inside it. Today only the ruins are visible.
