The Fontana delle paperelle was designed by Pietro Bianchi and constructed at the end of the 18th Century. It can be found in the Villa Comunale sited at the centre of a circular esplanade, about half way along Vanvitelli’s avenue and was originally adorned by the Farnese Bull group of sculptures from the Baths of Caracalla. The monument has a large pool in the centre of which is a big lava rock surrounded by four lions and with four seashells supporting the basin. It was once in the Duomo of Salerno and came from the archaeological area of Paestum.
