The Filarete Tower (Torre del Filarete o dell’Orologio) rises to a height 70 metres. The tower was restructured in the early 20th Century by Luca Beltrami – the original was destroyed in 1561. The quadrangular tower, with its two upper storeys, is capped by a small cupola. Above the entrance door is a bas-relief by Luigi Secchi which depicts King Umberto I on horseback and there is a coat of the arms of the six Sforza dukes higher up. The Filarete Tower’s doorway takes you into the impressive Parade Ground.
