Around 16 kilometres from Parma lies Felino Castle. This magnificent castle was built in 890 by the noble Marquis Luppone. In the 14th Century it was extended and fortified. It has steep walls and great bastion parapets which link the large towers. In the 15th Century a chapel and an oratory for St. Peter were added, and this is frescoed with the coats-of-arms of successive families. At this time prisons were also built underground. At night the castle is illuminated and can be seen for many kilometres around
