Founded in 1290 by Pope Nicholas IV, the magnificent Duomo in Orvieto dominates the square. The building wasn’t completed for 300 years and has a striped design in white and grey stone. The façade is stunning with its bas-reliefs and statues, mosaics and arches. It has a beautiful rose window by Andrea Orcagna dated 1360. The main door has bronze panels by Emilio Greco and inside there are many artistic treasures. Among these are frescoes by Luca Signorelli, Ugolino di Prete Ilario, and Benozzo Gozzoli.
