Cornus is a settlement that was the focus of a gathering opposition of the allied Carthaginian and Sard forces under the local chieftain. There was opposition to the growing power of Rome, but the rebellion was swiftly crushed. There is nothing left of the epic battle that took place further inland but the main site does reveal plenty of interest to the visitor, with the remains of an early Christian centre of worship. There is still evidence of the church remaining, such as the baptistery marked out by a preserved cruciform font.
