The Colonne di S. Lorenzo monument is sited in front of the Basilica of San Lorenzo. Here there is a square with a row of columns on either side, which were taken from a ancient building dating from the 2nd Century BC and later repositioned. The area between the church and columns was once completely occupied by old houses which adjoined the façade of the church itself. Despite plans to try and preserve them, the old houses were demolished leaving the monument in isolation.
