The Civico Museo d’Arte Contemporanea was constructed between 1772 and 1778 by the architect Piermarini close to the cathedral in the Palazzo Reale. Planned by Ludovic Begioiso and Franca Helg, the museum opened in 1984. It built its collection from acquisitions from the Museum of Modern Art and donations from Milan collectors who offered a patrimony of 20th Century Italian art. In the halls of this museum the history of 20th Century Italian art is told. The Jucker collection donated by the community in 1992 contains works by Matisse, Picasso, Modigliani, Klee and Balla.
