The church of Santa Severa stands among the necropolis of Punic Othaca and its mismatched sandstone construction shows its different periods of building. Dating back to the 14th Century, the church has a spiral staircase next to it that leads down to subterranean medieval tombs. The tombs, probably dating from around the Phoenician era, are of many different types and include one monumental example south of the church looking as if it was for high-ranking official, judging by similar ones found in Morocco, Tunisia and Cyprus.
