The Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Naples is a very early Christian basilica. It was constructed sometime in the 6th Century but was rebuilt in the Baroque period. The locals know it as the church of Pietra Santa and perhaps its most interesting features are the 11th and 12th Century bell tower in Romanesque brickwork and the Pontano Chapel. Restoration of the church meant many original features were lost but the 15th Century Majolica floor remains.
