The church of San Salvatore is from the 16th Century and sits in a wide area lined with small, pilgrims’ shacks. The church opens its doors for just nine days a year, allowing pilgrims and devotees to pray. It could look very familiar to visitors, because it was used as a set for various spaghetti westerns in the 1960s and 70s. It has an unassuming look, but the church of San Salvatore has a fascinating past, having been built on the site of a former pagan temple dedicated to Mars and connected in nuraghic times with a water cult.
