The Church of San Pietro a Majella was built in honour of Pope Celestino V, Pietro Angeleri at the beginning of the 14th Century. He was a hermit on the Maiella Mountain, who had renounced his throne after only five months. Of great importance are the ceilings, which have beautiful paintings depicting the stories of San Celestino and Santa Caterina d’Alessandria, a masterpiece by Mattia Preti. There are also fine frescoes telling the stories of San Martino and Mary Magdalene from the 14th Century. The convent attached to the church is home to the Conservatory of Music.
