Built in the 6th Century the Church of San Lorenzo Maggiore is renowned for its association with some famous literary figures. These include Giovanni Boccaccio, who met Fiammetta here in 1334, and Francesco Petrarca, who stayed in the convent attached to San Lorenzo. The interior is one of the most beautiful in the medieval city and on the floor, outlined in metal studs, you can be see the outline of the early Christian church. A visit to the Cacace Chapel to the see the Nativity set in the right transept is a must.
