The Chiesa di Santa Maria in Betlemme (Saint Mary in Bethlehem) in Mesagne was built in 1738. This church, built in a Baroque style, was erected over a previous church of the 16th Century. The apsidal wall of the former church of 1528 is now the right apse of the present one and still has its medieval image. This image was called Santa Maria della Sanità after the plague that hit the town in 1528.
