The Chiesa di San Pietro is a southern Italian medieval building which most resembles the Byzantine building and artistic styles. The church dates back to the 8th Century and is right in the historical centre of Otranto. Originally it had a 17th Century side door and an exquisite 17th Century altar. The beautiful interior is sumptuously decorated. But it is the fabulous frescoes that are the most breathtaking, portraying biblical scenes such as The Last Supper, Washing of the Feet and the Baptism of Christ.
