The Chiesa del Gesù Nuovo was erected in 1470 for the Jesuits. For the exterior they used the ashlars facade in diamond-point stone from the great Sanseverino Palace, the former home of the Prince of Salerno. The entrance is an enclosed Baroque portal that leads into the interior of this Renaissance building. Many of the leading artists working in Naples created the frescoes, plasterworks and marble facings from the 16th to the early 19th centuries. The Expulsion of Eliodorus from the Temple, created by Francesco Solimena, is just one of the wonderful works of art on display here.
