Charterhouse of San Martino
Largo San Martino, 5 Naples - Italy

Map
Sitting atop the Vomero hill, this church, built in the 14th Century and later remodelled, is an outstanding example of Neapolitan Baroque. The architect and sculptor Fanzago was responsible for much of the interior, using rich decoration. Some of the works of art include the wonderful ‘Ascension of Jesus’, by Giovanni Lanfranco, the ‘Pietà’, by Massimo Stanzione, and ‘Moses and Elijah’, by Jusepe de Ribera. The Chapel of the Treasury has Luca Giordano’s masterpiece, the Triumph of Judith and over the altar is the ‘Deposition’, by Ribera.
