The Cattedrale di Santa Maria della Madia in Monopoli was built in a Romanesque style but has a Baroque frontage. The interior has a dome which is decorated with frescoes of the Four Evangelists. Reached by two flights of steps is the Chapel of the Virgin of the Madia. This lovely feature is highlighted from the entrance because it’s framed by a tall archway. The altar is made up of coloured marble inlays which have been gathered from different quarries.
