The Cathedral Church of Mascalucia is dedicated to Santa Maria della Consolazione. Originally built in the 13th Century, it can be located in the historic centre of the village. It was almost completely destroyed by the 1693 earthquake with only an altar remaining undamaged and now placed in the chapel of the apse. The façade has three orders and the portico is constructed in lavic stone; to the sides are two finely worked columns of basalt. The bell-tower has a precious spire adorned with coloured mosaic in ceramics. Inside are three naves, a decorative ceiling and fine stucco work.
