The imposing castle in Padenghe sul Garda is located above the town. The medieval structure has preserved its original shape and has three distinctive towers in the north-westerly corner. Today only ruins of the central part are still standing. The main square tower sits over the entrance, which once supported a drawbridge and a footbridge - traces of which are still visible. This fortress was fought over many times and in 1414 Pandolfo Malatesta entrusted it to Padenghe. The lord and troops lived in the ‘castellino’ (a small castle which was built within the castle walls at a later date).
