The Castle of Torrechiara is an impressive structure which was rebuilt between 1448 and 1460 for Pier Maria Rossi, lord of the area. It is built with a square base and four towers, and fortified with a triple circle of walls. It is surrounded by the ancient town, which is enclosed by a further, outer wall. There are frescoes in the Golden Room of the castle which depict the love story between Pier Maria Rossi and Bianca Pellegrini. Each year, during July, the Festival of Torrechiara is held in the courtyard here.
