This neo-classical building was built in 1870 and was called ’Pompeiorama’, because it exhibited a permanent display of images from Pompeii. These were originally looked after by the artist F. Maldarelli and later by the photographer Lauro. The building was restored in 1891 by the architect Chioccarelli, and housed exhibitions organised by the Polytechnic Artist’s Circle. After the war, it became the headquarters of the Salvator Rosa Society for Fine Arts and from 1997, it has returned to the Naples Town Council who actually own it, and used as an exhibition area for contemporary art and other cultural exhibitions.
