Padova’s Botanical Garden dates to around 1545 and is considered the most ancient university garden in the world. Because the garden has been enriched with plants from all over the world, this place a must see. Local tradition says the Venetian nobleman Daniele Barbaro planned the garden and that the architect Andrea Moroni was responsible for the work. In 1704 four gates were added along with white balustrade running around the enclosure walls. Outside of the southern gates are two fountains, while the eastern gates had statues of Theophrastus and Solomon with the four seasons.
