The Bay of Naples is a must-see attraction for visitors to the city. It is considered to be one of the best known and most readily identifiable panoramas in the world. The best vantage point, from where the view takes in the great bay, is the hill of Posillipo. This is where postcards and other illustrations reproduce the famous image of the bay with the pine tree, (now no longer there). The whole area – sea, city, Mount Vesuvius and the islet of Castel dell’Ovo – is transformed at night by a string of lights which stretches along the whole seafront.
