The Bardi fortress near Parma was constructed in 898 in a strategic position at the crossways between the Ceno and Noveglia rivers. It was built to defend the territory against the attacks by the Hungarians. What can be seen today is the result of 15th Century extensions carried out by Manfredo Il Landi. During the late 16th Century it became a lavish seigniorial residence by order of Federico Landi. After prince Federico’s death, Bardi fortress was sold to the Farnese dukes and became a military headquarters and barracks until 1868, when it became the local Town Hall.
