Antoniano dell’Arcella Sanctuary
Via Bressan Ludovico, 1 Padova 35132 - Italy

Map

The Antoniano dell’Arcella Sanctuary is thought to have been built by Saint Francis himself in 1220. The site became famous because two saints are said to have died here, the blessed Elena Enselmini and Saint Anthony. The convent adjacent to the sanctuary was abandoned in 1509 and was used as the troop headquarters for Maximilian I during the siege of Padova. Just a few years later the convent and church were destroyed, leaving only the cell in which Saint Anthony died. Every year on the eve of June 12th a commemoration of the death of the saint takes place.
