The Antiquarium Arborense is housed in a fine 16th Century merchant’s house and is one of Sardinia’s most interesting museums. The museum’s permanent exhibition is focused on Tharros and its occupants. The ground floor of the museum holds the earliest finds from the nuraghic and prenuraghic eras, including many Neolithic blades, axe heads and spearheads, some of which are obsidian or flint. The most thrilling is the finds from the Carthaginian Tharros, taken from burial grounds, with masks to ward off the evil eye and elegant shaped curved vessels.
