The Acquario e Civica Stazione Idrobiologica building was erected for the International Exposition of 1906 and was designed by Architect Sebastiano Locati. The Station has decorations of an aquatic theme in ‘Maiolica’ which were damaged in 1943 during the war; however, the building remains intact thanks to various restorations. On the border of Sempione Park rises the Civic Arena, one of the oldest in the world; the aquarium holds 36 tanks with a 100 different species of aquatic life. Admission is free.
