The Sirente- Velino Nature Reserve is one of the largest and most important in Italy. It was set up in 1989 to help protect the environment and to pass on the cultural and historical nature of the area. This is a natural setting which extends over an area of nearly 60,000 hectares with everything from rocky outcrops to beautiful landscapes and an ideal habitat for many of Italy’s finest flora and fauna. There are many sporting activities here including walking, horse-riding and mountain biking, alpine climbing (on Monte Velino), rafting, cross-country and alpine skiing.
