Sacre Monte is one of Orta San Giulio’s greatest treasures and dominates the headland high above the town. Set at the top of the hill this structure is made up of two oratories and the remains of a monastery that houses a Gothic wooden Madonna. Experts differ on which of the chapels is the best, but do agree that 11 and 16 stand out above the others. The view from the terrace of chapel 15, which looks out over Lake Orta, is amazing.
