During the middle ages, the square of the Piazza del Duomo was the scene of executions. Today, it couldn’t be more different because what visitors will see is the busy market, which is held every day. Hundreds of brightly coloured stalls jostle for space here creating an authentic atmosphere of ancient Abruzzo town life, and you’ll find just about anything on sale here. The piazza is also lined with shops where visitors can buy typical local products such as L’Aquila saffron, honey, and other delicious specialities.
