The Abruzzo railway dates back to 1892 and now links and crosses Sirente-Velino Regional Park, Abruzzo National Park and Maella National Park. The route carries on from Sulmona and takes you to Pettorano sul Gizio and Campo di Giove, in the national park of Maiella. The train wends its way among forests of beech trees to Rivisondoli-Pescocostanzo at a staggering altitude of 1268 metres – the second highest railway in Italy. Your journey can take you on to Castel di Sangro and Alfedena, on the outskirts of the Abruzzo National park.
