The Palazzo Borromeo, on the southern side of the island, is quite imposing. Built on the highest point, it dominates the landscape. There are two entrances served by two corresponding jetties. Of note is a room on the southeast side of the building which is decorated with tromp-d’oeil frescoes depicting a pergola covered in trailing plants. Each room is furnished to represent a bygone era and there is a collection of 17th Century paintings. The palazzo has a valuable collection of puppets and marionettes, scenery and drawings once used in theatrical productions that entertained the family and their guests.
