Although Omegna is an industrial town it is a very pleasant place to visit. The town still retains part of its fortified walls and the ruins of an old bridge that once spanned the river. Experts think the bridge may be medieval or possibly older as there are traces of Roman work. The old part of the town, especially that which overlooks the lake, is perhaps the most interesting, with balconies and outside staircases as well as a fine array of shutters and wrought ironwork.
