You can get to the Isola San Giulio from the main town of Orta San Giulio and it’s well worth the trip across the short stretch of lake. The island still retains a quaint charm with its narrow lanes, churches and piazza and you can really believe you have stepped back in time. There is not much clear land here as the island is jammed packed with buildings that date back from the first time it was used as a settlement - by San Giulio who built a hermitage here.
