Isola Madre is the largest of the three islands and is probably closer to Pallanza than it is to Stresa. The island is only occupied by one villa, but its gardens rival those if the Isola Bella. It has been designed over five terraces and visitors to the gardens delight in wandering around the display of flowers, shrubs and trees. The villa is from the 18th Century and is simple in style. It has its own chapel which contains the tombs of the Borromeo family.
