This villa was named ‘La Ferdinanda’ after Ferdinando I. It was used by the Medici Grand Dukes primarily for hunts that were organised on the extensive neighbouring Mount Albano reserve, which was first acquired by Cosimo. Bernardo Buontalenti built it between 1594 and 1598. Of note are the characteristic chimneys that line the roof of this villa (also nicknamed ‘the villa of a hundred chimneys’). Today, the villa is privately owned and is often used for banquets, receptions and conferences. Out of season the local archaeological museum is housed here, with many Etruscan and medieval artefacts on display.
