There are two interesting towers at Poggio Renatico; the Torre del Poggio, and the Torre dell’Uccellino. The Torre del Poggio, now a library, is also known as the Greengrocer’s Tower and was once used as a watchtower. There were 16th Century frescoes here though these are now at the National Gallery in Ferrara. The Torre dell’Uccellino, or Tower of the Little Bird, is situated along a provincial road which connected the Bolognese territory to the Ferrarese area. The bell from this battlemented tower was seized by Alfonso II in order to melt down the bronze to make new cannons.
