The Canape’ public park was officially opened in 1778. In the latter half of the 1800s it became a place for popular entertainment with ‘gran circo Guillaume’, featuring Indian games and Chinese boats. In 1865 it was taken over by a company of trapeze artists and acrobats and later it hosted horse trials with horse shows and markets. In 1906, one of the first short film projections was held in the park. In 1889, a cycle track was added where races could be held.
