The church of Saint Peter today is a remodelling of the original building. There are four columns, partially incorporated, which once supported an open gallery before being demolished and later used for the construction of the present church, which was consecrated in the 11th Century. These columns are decorated with carved circles of acanthus leaves – a Byzantine favourite. There are some frescoes by followers of Raffaellino del colle and Caravaggio as well as inlaid furniture worked by the Maffei brothers, renowned artists from the region
