The church of San Martino del Vescovo is a small building which was erected on the site of a former oratory. This was founded around 986 and would have been the local church of Dante Alighieri. The church was reconstructed in the 15th Century and became the headquarters of the charitable institution, the Compagnia di Buonomini, a body helping higher-class people who’d fallen on hard times. The Ghirlandaio workshop is accredited with the fresco work and also here are some fine paintings including one by Perugino’s pupil, Niccolo Soggia.
