The Franciscans built San Francesco in the 13th and 14th Century. It has a beautiful façade and an elegant Gothic doorway and many frescoes inside the church. Most of the work is by Matteo da Gualdo who is the best-known artist in Gualdo Tadino, and whose works are also on display in Assisi and Spoleto. The fresco on the left pilaster of St Anne depicting the Virgin and Child is thought to be the oldest works by the artist.
