Excavations of the Roman Necropolis of Voghenza started in 1976 bringing to light a burial and monumental area of great significance dated between the middle of the 1st Century to the 3rd Century A.D. The necropolis has already turned up 67 burial plots dating to the 6th –7th Centuries A.D. The materials found consist of common pottery, oil-lamps, glass balm containers and amber, metal, gold, onyx and bone objects. Voghenza was a Roman city that was called Vicus Aventinus or Vico Habentia; it was an administrative hub of vast imperial properties.
