The Porta Soprana in Genoa is one of the city’s main entrances. It has always been an important link for the city with its surrounding walls and the Roman road which runs eastwards. The entrance is of the same date and period as the twin door, the Porta dei Vacca, built in 1161. The structure is impressive being made up of two crenellated keeps that look out over the Piano di Sant’Andrea. There used to be a church of the same name on this site as well as the Columbus’ House.
