The 19th Century terrace of Piazzale Michelangelo looks out over Florence and the Arno valley and is a favourite spot with locals and tourists. It can be reached on foot by taking the dramatic route created between 1865 and 1871 by architect Giuseppe Poggi. Piazzale Michelangelo has one of the most spectacular views over the city, and comes with its own massive copy of Michelangelo’s statue of David. On completion of the terrace, Poggi designed the hillside building, now a restaurant, as a museum for Michelangelo’s works.
