The Piazza Fontane Marose is on the edge of a historic centre, near the monumental Via Garibaldi. The square owes its name to the fountain which is quite a fierce rush of water, which it collects from the banks of Luccoli and directs it to the sea. It is designed to hold equestrian events and tournaments as laid down by an historic commission of the republic. However it is a road with fascinating buildings, including the black and white Palazzo Spinola ‘die Marmi’, the Palazzo Negrone’s severe 18th Century façade and the Palazzo Pallavicino with its luminous frescoed façade.
